We offer an English speaking driver who can provide transportation, but highly recommend adding a private guide for a more memorable experience. A private guide is available for the 6/7 hour walking tour of the Vatican City and Ancient Rome.Your driver will be waiting for you at your port of arrival, holding a sign with your name on it.

The vehicle & driver would be at the ship as you disembark to pick you up and bring you into the city (to meet up with the guide) and would then be at your disposal for the full day of sightseeing in Rome to help you during your day. At the end of your day the driver would then drive you back directly to your ship.

The Vatican Ratified in 1929 as a sovereign state, the108 acres of ground within the Vatican city walls house St. Peter's Basilica (the largest Christian church in the world, and an architectural achievement of the Renaissance and Baroque), the Vatican Museums with magnificent works of art including the Sistine Chapel with its famous ceiling painted by Michelangelo, and lush immaculately cured gardens. Since it is governed by the Bishop of Rome, the Pope, its government can be described as ecclesiastical and the highest state functionaries are in fact clerics.

The modern-day home of the pope, the smallest independent nation state in the world in terms of area and population. It is the territorial seat of the Holy See, the institutional entity represented by the Pope, and hence the principal ecclesiastical seat of the Catholic Church of both Eastern and Western worlds.

Ancient Rome was a civilization that grew out of the city-state of Rome, founded on the Italian peninsula in the 8th century BC. It came to dominate Western Europe and the entire area surrounding the Mediterranean Sea through conquest and assimilation, but eventually succumbed to barbarian invasions in the 5th century, marking the decline of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the Middle Ages.

The area containing many archaeological sites is described as ancient Rome, from the Via dei Fori Imperiali where the impressive forum is located, to the Coliseum, the Circus Maximus and the Baths of Caracalla. Archaeological remains can also be spotted all over the Eternal City, in the least expected places, and many can be discovered beneath the modern city of Rome.

It is important to note that proper attire must be worn in the Vatican; shoulders and knees must be covered
